AUCTION FORMAT

This is a live online only auction with an auctioneer. While lots will not be available for in-person viewing at our auction rooms, all items are comprehensively illustrated and carry detailed condition reports. Please see 'Condition Report' at the foot of each lot description.

 

REGISTRATION

All bidders are required to register an account with us before the auction starts. This can be done in person or on our website here.

Following the recent amendments to the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations 2017, we require all potential buyers to supply the following identity documents: 

  • Government issued Photo ID – A current Passport or Driving Licence.
  • Proof of your residential address dated within the last 3 months - Utility Bill/Bank Statement or Official Letter.

For secure storage, please upload copies within the ‘Identity Documents’ section of your account.

HOW TO BID

Sworders is pleased to offer a live online bidding service on our free bidding platform SwordersLive. Complete with live audio and video feeds, this service provides an authentic auction experience as if you were in the room. You can watch and hear the auction as it happens wherever you are in the world.  There are no online bidding fees when using SwordersLive and the system enables you to see the source of opposing bids as they happen.

Please note, all commission (absentee) bids must be received at least 30 minutes before the auction starts.  

 

THE PURCHASE PRICE

 As a buyer, you will pay:

1. the Hammer Price;

2. a Buyers Premium of 25% plus VAT on the Hammer Price or 18% plus VAT for our Fine Wine and Spirits auctions;

3. any Artist’s Resale Right royalty payable on the sale of a lot. Lots are denoted by a ▲ symbol;

4. any third party live bidding platform fee (online commission);

5. any VAT due.

PAYMENT

Once the auction has concluded, you will receive an invoice by email with a link to our invoice payment page.Payment is accepted by bank transfer, credit or debit card.

 

COLLECTION AND SHIPPING

Whether you are collecting in person, would like to take advantage of our seamless Delivery Service, or require advice about carriers, please visit Collection & Shipping.

 

REMOVAL OF LOTS

We operate a booking system for collections.  Please book your appointment online at least 24 hours in advance, to ensure your items are ready for you when you arrive - Book an Appointment.

Items will be available to collect from the day after the sale at our Stansted Auction Rooms, Cambridge Road, Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex CM24 8GE. 

Please select ‘Collection’ as your appointment type when booking your collection time.

 

STORAGE CHARGES:

All purchased lots must be removed from the premises by 5.00pm at the latest on the Friday following the sale. Lots remaining after this time will be moved into safe storage and may incur charges.

 

RECLAIMING VAT:

Where you wish to claim back VAT on our fees for lots that are to be exported from the UK, please contact our Accounts Office on accounts@sworder.co.uk. The minimum VAT refund available is £75, for which there is a charge of £25.
